CHINA – Researchers have arrived in Wuhan, China, to investigate the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic.
World Health Organization (WHO) dispatched the experts approved by President Xi Jinping’s government
There is no African on the visiting global team.
The group comprises virus and other experts from Australia, Britain, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Qatar, Russia, United States and Vietnam.
Fifteen team members were initially on the trip but two tested positive for coronavirus antibodies before leaving Singapore.
WHO said all had multiple negative PCR and antibody tests for COVID-19 in their home countries before traveling.
“They were tested again in Singapore and were all negative for PCR. But two members tested positive for IgM antibodies,” it said.
The UN agency added that the duo will be retested.
The rest in Wuhan will undergo a two-week quarantine, a throat swab test and an antibody test.
They will commence work with Chinese scientists via video conference while in isolation.
