SAUDI ARABIA – Salah Khashoggi, a son of murdered Saudi journalist, Jamal Khashoggi, has told his father’s killers that he and his brothers have forgiven them.
“We, the sons of martyr Jamal Khashoggi, announce we have forgiven whoever killed our father for the sake of God. We deeply hope that God Almighty will reward us for this,’’ he tweeted on Friday.
Salah lives in oil-rich Saudi Arabia.
Khashoggi was murdered inside Riyadh’s consulate in Istanbul, the capital of Turkey, in 2018.
The dissident journalist had gone to get papers to marry his Turkish fiancee, Hatice Cengiz, who was waiting for him outside.
In December 2019, Saudi Arabia announced that five people had been sentenced to death.
Countries and international bodies heavily criticized the trial and sentencing for its secrecy.
Turkish and Western security agencies insist the hit could only have been ordered by top levels of the Saudi government.
Turkey said the, “sham trial” was an insult to the intelligence of observers.
But Saudi Arabia insists that the incident was a “rogue operation.”
Officials have repeatedly denied that Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) was involved.
