Coronavirus: Gov Ortom issues new directives as he reopens worship centres in Benue

BENUE, Nigeria – Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has directed that all workers on grade levels 1 to 12 are to resume work on June 1, 2020.


Ortom who made this known during the State Executive Council meeting also advised the workers to always wear face masks and maintain social distancing.

He also ordered that churches and mosques will as from Thursday, May 21, 2020, begin to hold staggered worship sessions.

According to him, this means that churches or mosques which before now held two worship sessions are to henceforth conduct four sessions in a day.

A statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase stated that Street trading is encouraged but strictly by obeying social distancing protocol on COVID-19.

“Markets will be partially opened to enable traders access their shops.

“ Fumigation of markets will be carried out periodically.

“Inter-state movement remains prohibited, except those on essential services.

“ The prevailing curfew in the State has been reviewed to now last between the hours of 8pm to 6am daily, until further notice. “

Ortom, therefore, advised Benue people to intensify their farming activities, adding that the state will review the issue of school resumption in the next 14 days.
