ONDO, Nigeria – A banker alongside three others have been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Odigbo, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State for allegedly stealing the sum of N2,285,000 belonging to Grace and Mercy Micro Finance Bank.
Sunday Blessing, 35, a staff of the bank, Effiong Aneiedi, 49, a pastor, Inyang Aniekan Gibson, 59 a teacher and Kehinde Atinuke now at large were accused of felony with stealing and fraud.
The defendants allegedly committed the offence between June 2018 to February 2019 at Grace and Mercy Micro Finance Bank Ajegunle, Ore.
The charge sheet read in part, “That you, Sunday Blessing, Effiong Aneiedi, Inyang Aniekan Gibson and one Kehinde Atinuke at large between June 2018 to February 2019 at Grace and Mercy Micro Finance Bank at Ajegunle Ore did conspire together to commit felony to wit stealing/fraud and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
“That you, Sunday Blessing, Effiong Aneiedi, Inyang Aniekan Gibson and one Kehinde Atinuke at large on the same date, time and place did steal and defraud N2,285,000.00 property of Grace and Mercy Micro Finance Bank Ore and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 383(2) and punishable under section 390(9) and 434 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.”
The accused persons who were brought before the court presided over by Mr T.J Ajayi pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Usifoh James, who told the court that he would be calling three witnesses to testify in the case, applied for a date to enable him study the case file.
Counsels to the defendants, Barrister Ibe and Barrister Victor Akinfe, applied for the bail of the defendants in most liberal terms.
The presiding magistrate, T.J Ajayi, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N1,000,000 each with one surety in like sum.
The surety, he said, must be resident within the jurisdiction, while the residence should be confirmed by the court’s orderly and reported back to the court.
The case was subsequently adjourned till December 11, 2019.
