ONDO, Nigeria – Following the protest by Oja Oba market women over the erection of iron barricade along the popular Oba Adesida road, Akure, the Ondo State, the state government has warned the protesters of the dire consequences of their action.
The Special Adviser to the Ondo Governor on Transportation, Mr
Oluwatobi Adeleye who read the riot act to the market women, stated
that those who perpetrated the act would be brought to book.
Earlier, the market women who had blocked the ever busy road for more that five hours, demanded for the demolition of the iron bars.
According to the women, the erection of the iron barricade had been preventing customers from patronizing their goods.
They also maintained that miscreants often robbed them any time they used the pedestrian bridge.
But while issuing a stern warning to the traders, Adeleye warned those who broke the barricade not to test the will of government.
He added that a section of the barricade which was meant to prevent people crossing the highway but to use the pedestrian bridge had been vandalised.
Unimpressed by the excuse given by the protesters, the Special Adviser flayed those behind the act, insisting that only those without their right senses could do such a thing.
