KOGI, Nigeria – Gov. Abubakar Bello of Niger state has urged Muslim faithful to uphold the principles of unity, peace and tolerance practised by Prophet Muhammad as they celebrate his birth.
The governor who said this in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mrs Mary Berje, to commemorate this year’s Eid-el Maulud, described these virtues as a necessity for growth and development.
Bello called on Nigerians to continue to pray for the wellbeing of the country and promote national integration in the conduct of their daily activities.
He said Prophet Muhammad and Islam preached virtues that were equally necessary for building a virile society.
On the forthcoming local government elections, Bello enjoined politicians to eschew bitterness and acts capable of breaching the peace of the state and the country at large.
Bello pledged to remain steadfast in pursuance of peace, unity and progress of the state.
