Journalist shedding light on Ebola virus murdered in DR Congo

CONGO – Papy Mumbere Mahamba, a 35-year-old radio host who helped to spread the word in the fight against Ebola, was found stabbed to death at his home in Northeast Democratic Republic of Congo. 

Though why Mahamba who lives in the town of Lwemba in the troubled Ituri region was killed is not yet known, it was gathered that the assailants wounded his wife before burning down their home late Saturday.

“Our colleague Papy Mumbere Mahamba was killed at his home by unknown attackers who stabbed him to death” a  journalist at Radio Lwemba, the local radio station where Mahamba worked said. 

AFP reported that Professor Steve Ahuka, national coordinator of the fight against Ebola and General Robert Yav, the commander of Congolese army forces in the Ituri town of Mambasa also confirmed the death of the journalist.
