What Northern govs said after Buhari’s victory at Supreme Court

ABUJA, Nigeria – The Northern Governors Forum has congratulated President Muhammadu BuharI on the apex Supreme Court’s ruling that dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday declared President Muhammadu Buhari the authentic winner of the 2019 presidential election, dismissing the appeal of Atiku in which he sought to upturn the validation of the results of the February 2019 elections by the presidential election tribunal.

The Supreme Court ruling was unanimous as the seven-man panel led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad picked holes in Atiku’s petition.

The governors in a statement on Wednesday by Governor Lalong‘s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Simon Maku, Chairman of the Forum, described the verdict of the Supreme Court verdict as no surprise

They stated that Buhari’s victory was well deserved because of the massive support the president received during the 2019 Presidential Elections from Nigerians of diverse backgrounds.

The statement read in part; “The news of the Supreme Court verdict did not come as a surprise because of the massive support the president received during the 2019 Presidential Elections from Nigerians of diverse backgrounds.

“The affirmation of Buhari’s mandate clears the path for the President to settle down in taking Nigeria to the Next Level without any distractions.

“The Northern Governors also congratulated Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Chairman and members of the All Progressives Congress as well as the entire nation.

“They assure the President of their unflinching support and loyalty as he continues to serve the Nation with integrity, dedication and uncommon patriotism.”
