LIMPOPO, South Africa – A six-year-old boy was mauled to death by half a dozen stray ..
NANCY Mohale could only watch as six dogs attacked her grandson Marothi, bit his neck and licked his blood.
Marothi (6) was attacked by dogs in Hweetji Village in Tzaneen on Tuesday afternoon on their family’s farm.
Gogo (55) said: “I saw the dogs run towards our land from their yard. I realised we were in danger because these dogs always attack residents.
“They went straight for my grandson. I tried to scare them away, but they grabbed his neck while others went for his body.”
After scaring off the dogs, she picked up the child and ran with him.
“My two other grandchildren took a different direction and I saw the dogs run after them,” she said.
“A woman pelted them with stones. I ran home, covered my grandson with a cloth and went to the clinic.”
He was declared dead on arrival at the clinic. Meanwhile, villagers took to the streets on Wednesday, demanding the dogs be hanged and the owner arrested.
The family said all they wanted was for the owner to bury their son.
Letaba SPCA inspector Ellie Potgieter said. “We have removed all the dogs from the premises and the owner cannot own a dog again.”
They didn’t put the dogs down.
Constable Patricia Shikwambana said they opened a case against the owner and he would appear in court soon.
