Man pleads guilty to attempted robbery of Arsenal stars Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac

ENGLAND – The footballers were chased for a mile in £350,000-a-week Ozil’s black Mercedes G-Class through leafy Childs Hill in North London.

Ashley Smith, 30, today admitted attempted robbery when he appeared via video link at Snaresbrook Crown Court.

He was remanded in custody to be sentenced on November 1 at the same court.

Footage showed Bosnian defender Kolasinac – nicknamed ‘The Tank’ – fighting off two men during the alleged robbery on July 25.

The attackers were both seen wearing helmets and dark clothing after ambushing the players on mopeds.

Ozil, 30, was then pursued through North London before the moped muggers allegedly tried to smash the windows with stones and a brick.

The midfielder was forced to abandon the gold-trimmed motor in the middle of the road and reportedly took refuge in a Turkish restaurant.

Both players were uninjured after the alleged robbery attempt but they had to miss several matches at the start of the Premier League following concerns over their security.

OgeneAfrican reports that Jordan Northover, 26, has also been charged over the incident and is due to appear before magistrates on Friday.
